About Technology grinds
Leaving Certificate Technology is built around the design process: analysing a brief, developing options, making and evaluating a solution, alongside a written paper on materials, electronics, mechanisms and manufacture. Grinds help most with structured design folios, past-paper theory and how to explain choices with sketches and justification. Machining and assembly still happen in the school workshop; the tutor’s job is to make the thinking and written evidence match what examiners reward.

Technology grinds FAQ
Can Technology grinds help with the project folio?
Yes. Tutors commonly tighten analysis of the brief, annotated sketches, manufacturing plans and evaluation — the parts of the folio where marks are lost even when the artefact is solid.
Is Technology the same as Engineering or DCG?
No. Technology centres on solving an open design brief across materials and systems. Engineering leans more to materials and manufacture theory; DCG is graphics and CAD communication. Check the school option blocks before treating them as interchangeable.
Do Technology lessons work online?
Theory, design sketches and folio reviews work well online. Hands-on manufacture stays in school; use the grind to prepare decisions and documentation before workshop time.
